AMURT Romania

This was the very first site I’ve made. It was built to promote the NGO I was working at in 1999. AMURT (short for Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team) is an organization established in several countries around the world and has a lot of projects focused mainly on alleviating the suffering on the event of natural and man-made catastrophes. AMURT arrived in Romania right after the fall of communism and since then started and maintained a lot of social-relief projects. As the years passed by the focus changed a little to more long-term projects, the main one being a children’s home. I arrived in Romania in 1998 and took charge of that home, eventually becoming the president of the NGO there. AMURT in Romania is quite big and has a respectable history compared to big names like Unicef and Red Cross. I lived with the kids for 4.5 years, eventually moving to Norway in 2003.

Ironically, in spite of my best intentions, the site never made it online. But building it was very exciting and I knew there was something for me in web design…
