Photoshopus
Photoshopus is a blog that indexes Photoshop resources, mostly tutorials. It also posts original content, creating a very attractive variety of articles for those interested in Photoshop. For those who have been living in a box for the past 10 years, Photoshop is the best professional image editor out there, standing all by itself as the only best choice for advanced image editing. Well, almost the only, actually.
Photoshopus is not the first site of its nature, but I must say it does really well when it comes down to statistics. As I write, there are exactly 115 posts published on it – only. That alone attracts an average of 2.300 unique visitors every day, a traffic that is steadly growing. 75% of these visits come from organic search (search results in search engines), which proves that the site is highly optimized for search engines. Photoshopus is also referred to by many websites, I have even given interviews.
There are 1972 RSS subscribers as I type, 653 homepage bookmarks on Delicious.com, a Google Pagerank of 4, hundreds of comments and counting!
As good as it all sounds, I haven’t have the time to publish new content for a while. My life has taken big turns lately, unexpected events that came like an avalanche upon me. To mention the harshest one, my father was diagnosed with cancer and died less than a month ago. This was but one of the things that took me away from tasks like administrating this blog. Anyway, Photoshopus is too good a project to be left unattended, so something had to be done. Right now I’m organizing a team of volunteer authors to contribute to the site – they promote themselves as Photoshopers / bloggers and the site gets updated with content, a perfect win-win situation.
Photoshopus is by far my most successful personal project to date. I have many other ideas (and even domains to go with them) and hope all of them will be at least as good as Photoshopus has become. I believe this success is a result of the experience I have acquired over the years combined with such a wonderful tool WordPress is. Thanks for the open-source community!
